Matthew John Bascetta has been making stringed instruments since 1999. Originally from the United States, he learned to make fine dulcimers while working for Folkcraft Instruments in his home town of Winsted, Connecticut. He then studied acoustic guitar making with Ivon Schmukler, master guitar maker and repairer in Northampton, Massachusetts where he learned the fine points to instrument making and tool making. He studied classical guitar and violin construction at the Leeds College of Music in the UK where he learned from Bill Dinsdale and Kevin Wilkes. He is now based on the Wirral where he makes and repairs stringed instruments from his shop in Spital. He specialises in steel-string guitars, dulcimers, and the mandolin family of instruments. His professional credentials are well established and he is a member of the Association of Stringed Instrument Artisans, Guild of American Luthiers, Non-Such Dulcimer Club and the National Association of Instrument Repairers.
